How do you learn???

There are many theories about how you learn.  Nobody has the answers for sure.  But there are some good guesses and if you can figure out the best way for you to learn than you will have a great advantage in life.

I think you are your own best teacher.  But that means you have to figure out how you learn and tell that person at the front of the classroom what you need.  You can't just blame the teacher but you can help them teach you.

Here's a quiz  to figure out what your PRIMARY learning style is.  Mark each comment with a 1, 2 or 3.

The area you score highest in is your primary learning style.
The second highest score is your secondary style which helps you learn.
The  lowest points are your least helpful learning style.

If your teacher is teaching you in your least helpful style, then you have a little work ahead of you.  Help  your teacher to understand and try to optimize your best qualities of learning.

There are some helpful learning tips for your learning style in the  right column...

Take the Quiz to the left, then follow the instructions below to find out what kind of LEARNING STYLE you possess.

In his Theory of Multiple Intelligences, Howard Gardener proposes that people are not simply "smart" or "dull." Rather they have different "intelligences."

He identifies seven intelligences are:

Verbal/Linguistic Intelligence Visual/Spatial Intelligence Musical Intelligence Logical/Mathematical Intelligence Bodily/Kinesthetic Intelligence Interpersonal Intelligence Intrapersonal Intelligence

It can get quite complicated but really we can look at how we learn in three ways -

VISUAL

HEARING

TACTILE (touch)

When we learn we don't do it in just one way.  We do a little of each but our strength is often in one area.

And there are theories that we learn in other ways too.  I think there must be something connected to our emotions and experiences.

When  you learn to speak louder to people who are hard of hearing, you learned because of the experience and maybe because you "felt" (emotionally) that it worked to speak louder.  No one told you, there were no visual signs and it wasn't a lesson you could touch.  Experience is a great teacher.  Learn from your successes and mistakes.
